I have avoided live videos as long as I could. Well, until last week. With the rise of Periscope and now Facebook Live, it seems that more folks are taking advantage of recording live video of themselves.
For me, I always put too much thought into going live and as a result, it prevented me from creating videos altogether.
A few of the thoughts that would run through my mind focused on whether or not my hair looked right. Or if I would sound stupid. And sometimes I was even concerned about if folks would critique my clothing or just be overly critical of my presentation. Again, all those negative thoughts threw me off and stopped me.
Well, this past week I received a personal invitation from Facebook, that little did I know, would challenge me on one of my fears.
Facebook was coming to Chicago to introduce some new features like FB Live, Gear VR, special notification settings and to connect with Chicago area bloggers and influencers. I must say it was an awesome experience.
While I experimented with quite a few demonstrations during the event there was one section that I intentionally avoided at first. It was their Facebook Live demonstration. I spent a few minutes walking pass, checking it out and then looking for something else to do. After I’d done everything else, it was time for me to get over my fear and go live.
Sisters, I didn’t worry about my hair or my wardrobe. I threw caution to the wind, pumped myself up and went for it, while my husband watched. Although it was obvious it was my first live recording, because of the errors I made, I was still grateful I was able to leave the event with no regrets.
I can even laugh about how nervous and unprepared I seemed. But I did it and the most exciting part is that I’m comfortable and confident enough to do it again.
For some of us shy girls, it’s good for us to just jump right in. Whenever we put too much thought into the things that frighten us, we don’t get anything done. So, I’m challenging you, Bolder Sisters, to jump right in. What’s one thing you could easily jump right into?
I’d love to hear from you after you’ve done that thing. Remember, today we’re starting to live a life of no regrets. This is where it begins.
